I Want Out

Carta de Don Boudreaux ao editor do NYT, reproduzida no Market Correction.

Paul Krugman’s favorite sport lately, including today (“The Free Lunch Bunch,” Jan. 21), is championing Social Security – “It’s not in crisis!” “It’s a great deal!” “It’s a bulwark against penury in retirement!”

Irrelevancies all. I want out. I don’t care if Social Security is as solvent as Midas, and is the greatest bargain since Peter Minuet bought Manhattan. I want out. It’s my money and my future. I want the right and responsibility to care for myself without politicians and ‘experts’ intruding uninvited into my business – for suffering that arrogance and officiousness is, for me, the greatest burden of Social Security.

I want out.
