O estranho mundo de Basahr Al-Asad

Numa entrevista à televisão do Dubai o presidente sírio, Bashar Al-Assad, emitiu uma série de confusas declarações.

Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad has expressed strong opposition to the deployment of U.N. troops along his country's border with Lebanon, saying such a move would be "hostile" to Syria and create problems between the two nations.

A não ser que a força da ONU pretendesse atacar a Síria não vejo que problemas iria causar. A não ser que as forças da ONU pudessem eventualmente impedir (ou pelo menos detectar) fornecimentos de armas ao Hezballah...

"This negates the sovereignty of Lebanon," Al-Assad said in an interview Wednesday with Dubai TV.

Folgo em ver que o presidente sírio se preocupa com a "soberania" do Líbano. Especialmente depois de ter actuado como força de ocupação e interferir continuadamente neste país.

"No country in the world accepts having soldiers of another nationality patrolling its border."

Nenhum?!! Tem a certeza?

"They are taking sovereignty away from the Lebanese government and giving it to other forces while they talk about spreading that sovereignty," he said. "This is a hostile position towards Syria and will naturally create problems between Syria and Lebanon."

Naturally, mas só se isto significar uma redução da influência síria no Líbano. Digo eu...
