Kofi Annan e Guantanamo

Don't you just love the UN, with its self-serving double standards? Just look how upset it has become about Guantanamo Bay, where America puts those who wish to plot against that country.

The conditions in the prison there are, according to five UN inspectors, appalling. UN secretary-general Kofi Annan, in a respite from presiding over the most corrupt and ineffectual organisation on earth, says he thinks America will have to close it down.

I look forward to UN reports on jails in other member countries, whose conditions make Guantanamo look salubrious. What about the prisons in, say, Nigeria, or Colombia, or Russia, or Thailand, or even - as condemned by a report earlier this week - France?
