Confirm Judge Samuel Alito

With today’s nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to the United States Supreme Court, President George W. Bush has fulfilled a promise made to the American people in 2004: He has nominated an exceptional jurist and scholar with a proven fidelity to the Constitution in the mold of Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia.###

Judge Alito, 55, has an impeccable resume for the Supreme Court. Like newly appointed Chief Justice John Roberts, Judge Alito has bonafide professional credentials and a paper trail that proves he has a clear understanding of the limited role of the judiciary in American life.

Judge Alito currently serves on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, a seat to which he was nominated in 1990 by President George H.W. Bush and unanimously confirmed by a Democrat majority Senate.

Judge Alito has served in the Department of Justice as Assistant to the U.S. Solicitor General, where he argued twelve cases before the Supreme Court. Judge Alito also served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General and as the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey.

Judge Alito is a graduate of Princeton University and Yale Law School.

Lest anyone forget, a vote for Judge Alito is not a vote for or against the president. This basic constitutional principle is lost on the radical left wing; but it is also a lesson that can be learned through a fair and civil hearing culminating in an up or down vote.

Judge Alito is an objective, brilliant and honorable individual. We expect a fair and expedient hearing will lead to his confirmation in time for the Supreme Court’s winter 2006 term.
