A propósito da Igreja Anglicana

Recomendo a leitura do artigo: Schism would be better than giving way to intolerance (obrigado ao insurgente FCG pela dica). Um artigo interessante para quem se interessa por matérias religiosas por essencialmente duas razões: a discussão do papel dos bispos como uma estrutura burocrática intermediária (uma abordagem que me parece limitativa mas ainda assim mercedora de reflexão) e a constatação de que o progressismo anglicano (relativamente ao qual o autor do artigo mostra alguma simpatia) tem sido acompanhado de uma quebra sustentada do número de fiéis. É provável, até atendendo à sua história, que engolir "biblical scholarship" não seja um problema para a Igreja Anglicana; mas o que é certo é que também não parece ser a solução para nada.

The Church of England represents a minority of worshippers in modern Britain. Others are clear. Roman Catholics will have no truck with women priests at all, or sexually active men for that matter. Nonconformist denominations are liberal-minded. So if the Church of England breaks into two over gay clergy, so what? It broke into two at the Reformation in the 16th century and it broke into two with the rise of Methodism in the 18th. Its numbers are steadily declining.

When the Church allowed clergy to marry, and then to be women, they had to swallow a deal of biblical scholarship. They can surely do so again. This cannot be a problem.
