Com a entrada da Venezuela do populista Chavez no Mercosul - o maior bloco económico regional da América do Sul -, está vencida a primeira etapa. A histórica meta, em direcção ao abismo, está à vista.

"Venezuela has joined the South American trade bloc Mercosur in a move that has split observers over whether it will help or hinder the group. President Hugo Chavez said Venezuela's "road to liberation" lay with Mercosur and called the expansion "historic".
Mercosur was set up in 1991 and its four current members are Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.
Some critics have said that Venezuela's membership will hurt its economy and increase tensions within Mercosur."
